ADMISSION
Admission requirements
Admission to the Danse-Études Program is by audition. Candidates should possess the following qualities:
- sound physical attributes for dance performance
- a solid technical foundation in dance, including a significant base in classical ballet
- good musicality and a sense of artistry
- a high level of motivation and a strong desire to fulfil the requirements of pre-professional dance training
Candidates accepted into the program by L'École de danse de Québec must also meet the entrance requirements of its academic partners. Generally, a grade average of 80% and above is needed for admission.
Admission procedure
Advance registration for the audition is required. Parents must forward the completed registration form, a cheque or money order for the $35 audition fee, a valid copy of the candidate's birth certificate, a short resume of dance studies and two photos (one portrait and one full length photo in dance attire).
The principal audition is held at L'École de danse de Québec in February, and March 1st is the usual limit for academic registration. However, late applications are accepted if there is space available in both the academic and dance programs. A second audition is often held in May.
In order to ensure enrolment in the academic component with L'École de danse de Québec's partner schools, parents are encouraged to register early. As a rule, eligibility is determined by the candidate's general academic record, but students entering grade 7 are required to write an entrance exam. The principal exam takes place late autumn. It is also important to note that academic studies are available in French only.
All interested candidates are encouraged to attend open house events hosted by L'École de danse de Québec and its partner schools. See the Upcoming Events section or contact the school for further details concerning open house events and auditions.
