Bélanger, Daniel
Limón-based modern dance, Stott Pilates
Very active in Quebec City’s artistic community, Daniel Bélanger has demonstrated over the years an undeniable talent as both performer and choreographer. Following his graduation from York University in 1989, Daniel joined O Vertigo Danse for a European tour. From 1990 to 1995 he danced with Quebec City’s Danse Partout Company, performing the works of numerous nationally renowned choreographers. In 1995, he returned to Europe, dancing and touring with the German company Ismaël Ivo. He was part of that company's international tour, performing the role of Cassio in Shakespeare's Othello. Daniel has also worked widely in theatre. From 1997 to 2000, he toured with Robert Lepage’s Ex Machina Company, in his production The Geometry of Miracles. Always interested in perfecting his skills, Daniel obtained his certification as an instructor from Stott Pilates in 2004. Wishing to offer young dancers more performance opportunities, he founded Code Universel, a contemporary dance company based in Quebec City, in 2003. A prolific choreographer, Daniel has created over a dozen pieces. His work has been presented in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. As a guest teacher, he has given workshops in Toronto and Quebec City, working with both actors and dancers.

Bélanger, Julie
Dance Traumatology (Applied Anatomy)
A physiotherapist and general practitioner, Julie has a special interest in the prevention and rehabilitation of dance injuries. After completing her professional training in contemporary dance at L'École de danse de Québec in 1994, she was invited to join the Danse Partout company, performing the works of Paul-André Fortier, Tedd Robinson and Lucie Boissinot, among others. She also performed for independent choreographers such as Daniel Bélanger and Lydia Wagerer and taught contemporary dance, creative dance and jazz dance at L'École de danse de Québec, and as a guest teacher at the Domaine Forget and Moncton's DansEncorps. Julie left the field of dance in the late 1990's to study physiotherapy, obtaining her certification in 2002. Almost immediately, she pursued her studies in medicine. Since 2002, she has once again become involved in dance, as a physiotherapist and consultant for students in professional training at L'EDQ and for professional dancers. She has also worked closely with L'École de danse de Québec's resident staff to introduce a number of measures regarding injury prevention and rehabilitation. Julie also teaches the traumatology component of L'EDQ's applied anatomy course, for students of the post-secondary level professional training program in contemporary dance performance.

Bérubé, Marie-Lorraine
Feldenkrais
A certified teacher of the Feldenkrais Method and accredited by the Feldenkrais Guild, Marie-Lorraine earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in Education and Art in Paris. She has been teaching Feldenkrais in private practice since 1986 and has also taught in professional programs in Europe, Japan and the United States. She has worked for the ministry of Education and has taught at l’Université du Québec à Rimouski and at l’Université Laval in Quebec City. Her fascination with the body's expressive potential as a means of personal growth and transformation has also led her to explore various acting, movement and voice techniques. In the field of self-awareness through movement, she has studied Ritual Movement as developed by Anna Halprin in California, Émilie Conrad Da’oud's Micro-Movement and Authentic Movement. Marie-Lorraine is an active member of Quebec’s association of Feldenkrais practitioners (AQPPMF) and the Regroupement pour l'éducation somatique.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts from York University in 1982, Lyne Binette pursued her pedagogical training at Canada's National Ballet School, receiving her diploma from the Teacher Training Course in 1985. She returned to York University in 1986 to study towards her Master's Degree in Dance, which she completed in 1989. From 1989 to 1994, Lyne taught ballet, creative dance and dance history at Ottawa's The School of Dance. Despite a full teaching schedule, Lyne continued her studies in the Cecchetti method of classical ballet, obtaining her Licentiate degree from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in 1992 and her Advanced diploma in 1993. In 1994, she joined the staff of L'École de danse de Québec teaching ballet, pointe work and character dance in both the professional and recreational divisions. She was manager of the school's recreational division from 1997 to 2003, also acting as artistic co-ordinator for the annual recital. Always eager to increase her knowledge, Lyne has participated in conferences and seminars in Montreal, Toronto, New York and San Francisco. In 2004, she earned her certification as a Stott Pilates instructor. Lyne is currently Head of L’École de danse de Québec’s professional division where she continues to teach classical ballet, history of dance and personal and professional development.

Biron, Caroline
Music and Eurhythmics
Fascinated by dance, music and voice since her early childhood, Caroline eventually chose to focus on music, pursuing her studies first at the Cégep de Sainte-Foy and then at l'Université du Québec à Montréal, from which she graduated in 1992. Since then, Caroline has pursued her professional development through workshops and courses focusing on pedagogy, composition and piano. Caroline teaches music for the local school board and Eurhythmics to various student groups. She has been on staff at L'École de danse de Québec since the early 1990's. She currently teaches Music and Rhythm to young students of the Danse-Études program and to post-secondary level students of the Contemporary Dance Performance program, as part of the Exploring Movement and Sound course.

Bouchard, Carmen
Classical ballet
Carmen has been teaching dance full-time since 1976. She has taught extensively throughout the province of Quebec, founding a school in Rimouski and teaching many years in Fermont, Sept-Iles and a number of other northern Quebec municipalities. She received her pedagogical training at l'École supérieure de danse du Québec and regularly attends dance teacher seminars. She has been on staff at L’EDQ since 1990, teaching classical ballet for the school's recreational division. Each year, Carmen choreographs a number of pieces for her many student groups. A talented costume designer and seamstress, she also makes literally dozens of costumes every year for the school's annual recital.

Bourbeau, Marie-Louise
Voice and singing for dancers
Mezzo-soprano Marie-Louise Bourbeau is a graduate of McGill University. In Europe, she performed with the Vienna Opera and the Salzburg Festival and initiated the European production of works by Canadian composers Patrick Cardy and Denis Gougeon. Between 1992 and 1996, she directed her own studio, The Voice Shop, in Tokyo. Her diverse training and her interest for dance naturally led her to develop a unique approach to vocal pedagogy. Her Voice and Movement Performance course is inspired by the philosophy and educational approaches of Linklatter (New York) and Minddendorf (Berlin). It trains the performer to maintain vocal production while engaging in dynamic movement. The success of her approach is due both to her personal experience in movement and voice and to her studies with Ellen Müller-Preis in both Vienna and London. Marie-Louise has taught classical, baroque and musical comedy (Broadway) vocal techniques in illustrious institutions in both Vienna and Hamburg. President of Master Sharing International inc., she also conceives innovative projects and productions which combine science and the performing arts.

Boutet, André
Functional Anatomy
A former professional dancer (he is a graduate of L’École de danse de Québec and performed with the Danse Partout company), André received a grant from Quebec’s ministry of Culture in 1991 to participate in the 700th Anniversary celebrations of Europe’s Helvetic confederation. After performing a few years with Danse Partout, he went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree from Laval University in 1995, specialising in Occupational Therapy. He also earned the University's Jeannette Hutchison Prize for the quality of his research. From 1995 to 2003, he worked full-time as an occupational therapist while teaching part-time at Laval University. In 2003, he was invited to teach full-time at the university’s department of rehabilitation associated with the faculty of medicine. André's continued interest in dance led him to join L’École de danse de Québec's teaching staff in 1995, where he teaches anatomy to the school’s post-secondary level students of the Contemporary Dance Performance program.

Cormier, Michelle
Graham-based modern dance
Michelle Cormier has been teaching at L’EDQ for over 15 years. A graduate of the school’s professional training program in modern dance in 1991, she chose to focus on a pedagogical career. The diversity of her training and her formidable pedagogical skills brought her to teach creative dance, ballet and modern, but over the years, she has come to specialise in Graham-based modern dance technique. She also occasionally teaches a more general contemporary dance style. In recent years, Michelle has continued her professional development, studying in Quebec, Vancouver and Guelph with various modern dance luminaries including her personal mentor, David Earle. She has also been a guest teacher in Moncton with Chantal Cadieux’s school DansEncorps, and her choreography has been performed by various student groups in Quebec and Moncton. As a performer, Michelle danced with a regionally based company in Rivière-du-Loup and for various events in Quebec City. In 2003, she performed a solo of David Earle’s and three solos created for her by Karine Ledoyen for the local CorresponDanse series. Since 2001, the pieces she has created for students of L’EDQ have been performed outside the school at such events as Symbiose, a local contemporary dance festival held each spring. Michelle has a second area of expertise as a rehearsal mistress and stage manager. As such, she works for both L’EDQ and various professional dance and theatre companies. In 2007, Michelle co authored a six-year syllabus for contemporary dance training with LADMMI's Lucie Boissinot. The program was written for recreational-level schools who are members of the Réseau d'enseignement de la danse (RED).

Dor, Johanne
Limón-based modern dance
The teaching of the highly experienced educator Johanne Dor draws its inspiration from the techniques articulated by masters Limón and F. Matthias Alexander; techniques she practiced for more than seven years. After eleven years as the artistic and executive director of La Rotonde - Centre chorégraphique contemporain de Québec, she returned in 2007 to her prime passion – teaching. Johanne began training in dance in 1974 as a student of contemporary dance, jazz dance, classical ballet and barre au sol. In 1984 a scholarship from the Canada Council for the Arts saw her through a year of studies in New York. Two years later a scholarship from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs earned her a workshop at the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, New York. In 1994 she completed a workshop at the Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, thanks to a scholarship from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Over the years Johanne has taught as a regular dance instructor or guest teacher at several institutions in Quebec and the rest of Canada, including Les Ateliers de danse moderne de Montréal Inc. (LADMMI) (1985-88), L’École de danse de Québec (1989-96), Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers (1991) and Vancouver’s Arts Umbrella
(1995-97). Her professional experience goes way beyond teaching: she has actively served as a performer, choreographer and rehearsal director. From 1989 through 1996 she fulfilled herself as the artistic director of the Compagnie Danse Partout. Since 2001 she has been on the board of directors of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. In 2000 she received the Prix du Développement culturel awarded by the Conseil de la culture des régions de Québec et de
Chaudière-Appalaches. Reconnecting to her passion for skiing in 2002, she completed certification courses of the Canadian Ski Instructors' Alliance, obtaining the Level 2 certification in 2007. Today Johanne is also an accomplished ski instructor to the general public.

Ferembach, Nicole
Classical ballet
Nicole joined L'EDQ's teaching staff in the summer of 2007. She possesses almost twenty years experience and her teaching style is the result of a number of influences. Nicole received her pedagogical training in classical ballet at l'École supérieure des Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal under the direction of Ludmilla Chiriaeff and Virginia Cuke-Seeley. She also obtained her credentials in modern and national dance through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, and studied at the Botsford School of Dance in Rochester, New York and at the Académie nationale de danse in Paris. While running her own school in France for nearly 15 years, she regularly attended professional development workshops through the Fédération nationale interprofessionnelle de la danse (FNID), working with internationally renowned master teachers. Over the years, Nicole has regularly choreographed and produced dance productions for her students and hosted workshops introducing dance to young people. Always interested in furthering her knowledge, Nicole recently completed her certification as a Pilates Matwork instructor through the Centre Pilates de Montréal.

Gauthier, Martin
Pianist and percussionist
A native of Montreal, Martin studied piano at l’École de musique Vincent d’Indy and musical composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. A senior musician who plays both piano and percussion, he has been accompanying ballet and modern dance classes at L’École de danse de Québec since 1989 and has composed a collection of music for dance classes. A versatile and well-loved dance accompanist, he has worked not only with the school’s resident faculty, but also with guest faculty from Canada, the United States and Europe. Martin also accompanied daily class with the Compagnie Danse Partout until its demise in 1997.

Hamel, Steve
Percussionist
A professional musician and composer, Steve studied drums before discovering the diversity of the world’s rhythms through percussion. Since 1998, he has been associated with the dance community as an accompanist for modern dance classes and a composer for a number of professional choreographers. He has also composed for circus and theatre productions and is currently a member of the Tzigane group Bazirka. He is also guest percussionist for David Earle and Dancers, both on tour and at Temple Studios in Guelph.

Khandjian, Céline
Contemporary dance
A graduate of both L’École de danse de Québec’s Danse-Études program and its post-secondary level professional training program in modern dance, Céline began her dance training at seven years of age in her native Switzerland before being admitted to L’École de danse de Québec’s Professional Division at the age of 12. A versatile young woman, Céline has taught creative dance, tap, ballet and modern dance to students of all ages, at L’EDQ and in various schools in the Quebec City area. Since graduating from L’EDQ in 1996, she has also completed a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and travelled to numerous countries. Céline rejoined L’EDQ’s teaching staff in September of 2003, teaching contemporary dance to students of the Danse-Études program. She also continues to work in the field of dance on a freelance basis as a performer, rehearsal mistress and technical assistant.

Leblond, Mario Michel
Simonson Jazz dance
Originally from the Saguenay region of Quebec, Mario has been an authorized teacher of the Simonson jazz dance technique since 1983. Teaching jazz and yoga, as well as choreographing and dancing for over 25 years, Mario has lived and worked mainly in New York, Toronto, Chicoutimi and Quebec. From 1990 to 1999, he created pieces for his Toronto-based company, LeBlonDanse, many of which were presented at such events as Toronto’s fFringe festival. Upon returning to Quebec in 1999, he continued to explore a creative process guided by a multidisciplinary approach in which musical comedy, theatre arts, music, song and theology all co-exist. Mario was invited to teach jazz dance for L’EDQ's Recreational Division in the autumn of 2004. He also teaches young students of the Danse-Études program.

Méthot, Brigitte
Hip hop
Brigitte has trained in a number of dance genres including ballet, modern, jazz and Latin. She pursued her professional training in modern dance with L’École de danse de Québec from 1996 ton 1999 before exploring such urban dance styles as hip hop, break and acrobatic dance. As a performer, choreographer and teacher, Brigitte now specialises in these urban dance styles, though her contemporary dance training influences her teaching, giving her a unique, well-loved style. Brigitte has taught for a number of schools in the province of Quebec both as a regular and as a guest teacher. She has been teaching hip hop classes for the recreational division of L’EDQ since autumn 2004.

Paradis, Jocelyn
Classical ballet
Born into a family of musicians, Jocelyn trained in figure skating for five years before discovering dance in his native Quebec City. Before long, he was admitted to Montreal’s l’Académie des Grands Ballets Canadiens where he trained with such prestigious teachers as Daniel Seillier, Christine Clair and Fernand Nault. From 1984 to 1991, he was a full-time member of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, dancing the repertoire of such illustrious choreographers as James Kudelka, Fernand Nault, Lar Lubovitch, Danny Grossman and Ginette Laurin, among others. His most memorable role was as principal dancer in James Kudelka’s The Rite of Spring. Though he still performs annually with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Nault’s version of the Nutcracker, he went on to perform with several companies and choreographers including the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault and the Danse Partout Company. Jocelyn recently calculated that during his performance career, he has danced over 800 performances with seven companies in seventeen different countries. He has been teaching at L’EDQ since 1999 and is currently working with students of the professional and the recreational divisions.

Paré, Caroline
Creative dance
Caroline's dance training as a scholarship student at Quebec City's l'École supérieure Les Ballets Jazz and Danse Partout schools allowed her to develop a solid technical base. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance from l'Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in 1989 and immediately pursued her career teaching creative dance and working as a dancer and rehearsal mistress for the company Corps Secrets. In 1992, a young « mommy », she chose to concentrate her activities in dance on teaching. With a career spanning more than 15 years, Caroline has taught creative dance for pre-schoolers, developed dance-based projects in primary schools, taught dance to high school students in school-based dance-academic programs and to adults in various contexts. Since her return to Quebec City, she has also written high school level dance programs for the Ministry of Education. Caroline has been teaching creative dance at L'École de danse de Québec since January 2006.

Poulin, Véronique
Stretch and Strength
Véronique developed a passion for dance from the age of nine. She studied Simonson Jazz, hip-hop and classical ballet in her native Beauce region, before being invited in 2001 to teach for the local Studio de danse Nancy Gilbert. In 2005, wishing to pursue her development, Véronique auditioned for L'École de danse de Québec and was admitted to its post-secondary level Preparatory Program. During her year of full-time training with L'EDQ, she developed a keen interest in anatomy, physiology and human movement potential. This new passion inspired her to pursue her university studies in the field of Kinesiology at Québec's l'Université Laval, where she has been studying since September 2006. Véronique has been staying active in dance despite her university studies. She was assistant to the choreographer and performed for the musical comedy La belle et la bête presented in December 2006. She currently teaches Stretch and Strength for L'EDQ and jazz dance for her former school, and regularly participates in intensive dance workshops.

Prince, Sylvia
Co-ordinator Accès-Danse outreach program and Head of Children’s Summer Day Camp
Sylvia’s dance training in tap, jazz, funky and hip-hop combine with over ten years experience as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. She has taught at the Studio Rythme et Danse in her native Abitibi-Témiscamingue, at L’École de danse de Québec, where she was also assistant and rehearsal mistress for the troupe Tendanse Jazz, and at l’école Nadia Desgagnés in Beauport. Sylvia also taught tap dance at the first edition of L’École de danse de Québec’s Jazz and Musical Comedy Summer workshop in 2002. She returned to L’EDQ in January 2004, to teach tap, jazz and musical comedy. She also became a certified Stott Pilates instructor in June 2004.

Raynaud-Petitclerc, Émilie
Danse moderne
Émilie graduated from L'École de danse de Québec's Contemporary Dance Performance program in 2004. During her studies at L'EDQ, her own choreography was presented at various events such as Symbiose and Cégep en spectacle. In 2005, she created and performed the duo Essai en quatre temps for local International Dance Day activities. Shortly thereafter, Émilie left Québec for a two-year stay in Montpellier, in the south of France, where she continued to gain experience as a young dance professional. During her stay in France, she participated in a number of workshops at the Centre chorégraphique national de Montpellier. These allowed her to discover new styles and techniques in contemporary dance. She also participated in various events based on improvisation and was invited to teach dance workshops to student dancers. Through these latter experiences Émilie discovered in herself an interest for teaching dance, which she has been doing for various schools since her return to Québec in the spring of 2007. Émilie currently teaches modern dance for L'EDQ's recreational division.

Mélisa has always been passionate about dance and intensely interested in teaching. She completed her post-secondary level studies in Arts and Dance at the Cégep de Drummondville with a first place ranking and a scholarship from L’Industrielle-Alliance. She went on to gain her teachers certification from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing through Ottawa’s The School of Dance. Upon graduation, Mélisa was hired by The School of Dance, teaching all ages and levels in both the recreational and professional divisions and holding a full-time administrative position until the summer of 2002, when she relocated to Quebec City and joined the staff of L’EDQ. Always interested in furthering her knowledge, Mélisa regularly attends professional development seminars. She became a certified instructor of the Stott Pilates method in the spring of 2004.

Savard, Nadine
Salsa et Fiesta Styling
From a very young age, Nadine has been interested in the many aspects of dance, developing a particular affection for Latin and contemporary dance. Since graduating from L'École de danse de Québec's Contemporary Dance Performance program in 1998, she has taught jazz, contemporary and creative dance to various age groups, in a number of venues. As a performer, Nadine has worked in various genres with different groups, such as l'Université Laval's performance group Catharsis. In 2002, she and her Latin dance partner, Alexis Alvarez, created their company, Bella Salsa, of which she is artistic director. Currently concentrating her activities on Latin dance, she regularly participates in international dance conventions and workshops, with the aim of maintaining the highest possible standards as a teacher and performer. Nadine has been teaching Salsa at L'École de danse de Québec since 2005.

Simon, Mario
Percusionniste
Mario has cumulated over 11 years of training in classical, jazz and popular drums and percussion. He studied at the Conservatoire de musique de Québec with Roger Juneau, first percussionist with l'Orchestre symphonique de Québec; at the CEGEP de Drummondville with Jean Archambault and Roger Simard; at l'Université Laval with Serge Laflamme and René Roulx and at l'Université de Montréal with Camil Bélisle. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the latter, specialising in jazz and popular drums. Over the years, Mario has accompanied numerous groups in a number of professional events. Among the artists with whom he has toured or worked in studio are Suzie Villeneuve, François Babin, Fréderick Degrandpré, Sylvie Desgroseilliers, Kim Richardson and Robert Marien. He also accompanied the humorist François Léveillée throughout the province of Québec during his Welcome To l'An 2000 performance tour and has travelled to Japon, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea with pianist Steve Barakatt. Mario has been teaching drums since 1989 in a number of music schools in Quebec and Montreal, going so far as to write his own method. He has been accompanying classes part-time at L'EDQ since September 2007, while continuing to work with a number of musicians and to give private lessons to over 30 students each week.

Thériault, Guylaine

Guylaine graduated from L'École de danse de Québec's Contemporary Dance Performance program in 1996. A multidisciplinary performer, she continues to train regularly in dance, circus arts and through various physical conditioning techniques. Over the years, she has participated in a number of workshops in Québec, Montréal and Toronto, working with such illustrious companies as Ultima Vez, O Vertigo and Yvann Alexandre, and with such master teachers as David Earle, Kenny Pearl, Peggy Baker, Julia Sasso, Véronica Mélis, Michael Trent and Susan Gaudreau and Louis Robitaille of BJM_Danse (Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal). Guylaine also communicates her passion for dance by teaching jazz, modern and, more recently, classical ballet. She has been training supervisor and head of the Pilates section in a local area gym since 2006. At L'École de danse de Québec, Guylaine has been teaching Pilates for the recreational division since obtaining her certification as a Stott Pilates instructor in 2004. In January 2007, she was asked to teach the Conditioning for dancers course to students of the professional division's Preparatory Program.

Therrien, Mélanie
Creative danse and Classical Ballet
Mélanie graduated from L'École de danse de Québec's Contemporary Dance Performance program in 1999. Over the years, she has also attended a number of performance and pedagogical workshops, notably at Ottawa's The School of Dance (1993), during a three-week workshop in New York with the Limón Company (1996), at O Vertigo's first summer workshop (1997) and with visiting guest teachers at L'EDQ. Since 1999, Mélanie has taught dance to figure skaters, circus students, in elementary schools and day care centres. At L'École de danse de Québec, she teaches creative dance and classical ballet to young children of the recreational division. She also teaches a creative workshop to students of the Danse-Études program for the professional division. While juggling her teaching schedule and raising three young children, Mélanie is also active as a performer, working with a number of local choreographers for dance, theatre and opera productions.

Trudel, Rosalie
Contemporary dance
Rosalie is a performer, choreographer and teacher established in Quebec City who particularly enjoys the improvisational arts. Strong, open and wilful, she searches through the medium of dance the means to convey her appetite for life, her taste for beauty and her curiosity concerning human beings. Rosalie was part of Julia Sasso's The Betrayal Project. She has also performed for Le fils d'Adrien danse (Harold Rhéaume), Ex Machina (Robert Lepage), Dancetheatre David Earle and choreographers Lydia Wagerer, Marie-Josée Poulin and Mario Veillette. In collaboration with Sarah Wendt, she presented Chambre d'Eau, an aquatic work-in-progress, in 2005 and 2006. A graduate of L'École de danse de Québec in 2000, Rosalie was awarded the Prix du Lieutenant-Gouverneur for the excellence of her dance and academic record. Since then, she has received a number of grants from the Canada Council and the CALQ. Her quest for precision and versatility has led her study regularly in Canada, Europe and the United States. Rosalie is also a charter member of l'Artère, a co-operative for professional dancers founded by graduates of L'EDQ, of which she was chairman in 2003 and 2004. She has been teaching contemporary dance for the professional division of L'École de danse de Québec since 2003.

Turcotte, Dominique
Classical ballet (Executive Director)
A Licentiate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, and a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto where she taught from 1979 to 1983, Dominique Turcotte has been the executive director of L’École de danse de Québec (L’EDQ) since 1985. Under Ms. Turcotte’s guidance, L’École de danse de Québec has made great strides, becoming the only school east of Montreal to be recognized as a professional dance training institution. Knowing the importance of offering quality dance education to the general public, Ms. Turcotte has always invested in the development of the school’s recreational division, widely recognized for the professional quality of its classes. Wishing to facilitate access to all motivated young people, she established the school’s scholarship fund in 1994. Endowed with a wide-ranging vision for dance that greatly exceeds the boundaries of L’École de danse de Québec, Dominique Turcotte has been present on all fronts and involved in a number of important issues relating to the development of the art form. She has served on the boards of several organizations including the Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD), the Réseau d’enseignement de la danse (RED) and the table de danse du Conseil de la Culture de Québec et de Chaudière-Appalaches. Most notably, she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Réseau d’enseignement de la danse, of which she was founding Chairman from 1998 to 2000, treasurer from 2001 to 2005 and Co-Chair since 2006. Ms. Turcotte also co-authored a recreational ballet syllabus for member schools of the RED and is a regular guest teacher during pedagogical workshops. For all these reasons and many more, Dominique Turcotte is widely recognized for her invaluable contribution to the development and promotion of dance, and remains a leading figure for the advancement of the art form in la belle Capitale.

Turcotte, Joëlle
Jazz Dance (Head of the Recreational Division and Manager of Corporate Productions
Joëlle is a graduate of L'École de Danse de Québec's professional training program, which she completed in 1987. An accomplished dancer and singer, her multiple talents landed her in Paris in 1988, where for nearly two years, she alternately performed five soloist roles in the French production of Cats. Since then, she has performed extensively in Montreal, Quebec, Charlevoix, Japan and Reno, Nevada. From 1990 to 1996, between show business contracts, Joëlle performed with Danse Partout, Quebec City's professional modern dance company. She went on to choreograph and perform with Quebec City’s Cabaret, Les Folie’s de Paris from 1998 to 2001. As a choreographer, she has worked on productions of La Magie de Broadway, Oliver! (2002), Le Magicien d’Oz (2004) and La Belle et la Bête (2006). Throughout her career, Joëlle has always maintained an active hand in teaching. She has been a certified teacher of the Simonson Jazz Dance method since the late 1980’s, and obtained her certification as an instructor of Stott Pilates in 2004. At L’EDQ, Joëlle is not only the senior jazz dance teacher and Head of the Recreational Division (since 2003); she is also manager of the school’s corporate productions and of the resident performance group Tendanse Jazz, which she co founded in 1996.

Veillette, Caroline
Pianist
Caroline holds a Masters degree in musical interpretation from l’Université de Montréal and a Masters degree in chamber music from l’Université Laval. She has been accompanist for a number of musical competitions and festivals. She is also pianist for the ensemble NostalChics, a salon orchestra based in Quebec. As a singer, she performs with the group Voixliées and also directs both a string ensemble in St-Augustin and the choir le Chœur de l’Isle. In conjunction with her performing career, Caroline teaches violin and piano. From 1996 to 1999, her activities as pianist in the dance department of l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) allowed her to work with such artists as Lucie Boissinot, José Navas, Ginelle Chagnon et Linda Rabin. Caroline has been accompanying ballet classes at L’École de danse de Québec since the summer of 2000. She was also guest accompanist for the Réseau d'enseignement de la danse (2006 and 2007) and for the Domaine Forget during its 2007 Summer Dance Camp hosted by BJM_Danse.

Veillette, Mario
improvisation / composition
A choreographer, performer and teacher, Mario completed his Master of Fine Arts in dance at l'Université du Québec à Montréal in 2002. He trained at Les Ateliers de danse moderne de Montréal with Linda Rabin, and over the past 15 years has participated in professional workshops with Carbone 14, Peggy Baker, Irene Dowd, Sylvain Lafortune, Jocelyne Montpetit, Risa Steinberg and Yumiko Yoshioka. In 2003, he also participated in the International Butoh workshop Ex...it held in Germany. Over the years, Mario has received grants from the Canada Arts Council, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Fonds canadien d'aide à la recherche and Concordia University's Kendellen Foundation. His work has been presented in Montreal, Quebec, Baie-St-Paul and Calgary. In 2005, Mario became Chair of the dance division for the Conseil de la Culture and, in 2006, member of the board of the Regroupement québécois de la danse. He teaches improvisation and composition to students of the professional division of L'EDQ, while pursuing his personal projects as teacher and choreographer in the Quebec City area.

Verret, Gaétan
Capoeira / Improvisation
Gaétan began dancing at the age of nine and was soon admitted to Canada's National Ballet School. He danced with the National Ballet and the Looking Glass before performing in Montreal with such choreographers as Jean-Pierre Perreault and Lucie Grégoire, as well as for television and film. Gaétan has taught ballet, modern dance, eurhythmics, taï-chi and capoeira, Brazil's exciting blend of dance and martial arts. In the past few years, Gaétan has been developing his skills as an aerial acrobat, training and performing with local circus groups. He was also part of the 2004 world tour of Jean-Pierre Perreault’s Joe. Due to his activities performing in circus and in dance, he teaches only occasionally at L’EDQ.

Vertefeuille, Geneviève
Danse Jazz/Funky
Geneviève discovered her love of dance during high school. Initially attracted by jazz dance, she soon added ballet, musical comedy, funky, modern dance and voice to her artistic palette. Over time, she acquired experience performing in public during dance concerts, festivals, fashion shows and various other events. From a young age, she was also nurtured to develop valuable experience teaching and choreographing, the latter of which led her to attain second place in a dance competition. Following this encouraging beginning, she was awarded the Agora de la danse de Montréal prize in 2002 in recognition of her motivation, dedication and promise. Geneviève moved to Québec in the summer of 2004. After studying briefly in L'EDQ's professional division, she was invited to act as assistant for the recreational division, occasionally standing in for regular staff. She has also worked summers during the Children's Summer Dance Camp. In January 2006, Geneviève was invited to teach children's classes in Jazz / Funky and musical comedy for the recreational division. She continues to choreograph and to perform regularly, on her own and for L'EDQ's corporate contracts.

Wagerer, Lydia
Interpretation / Final Year Production Project
Toronto-born Lydia Wagerer is a well known dancer and choreographer throughout much of Canada. She obtained her degree in dance from the London Contemporary Dance School in 1991. Since then, she has worked throughout Canada and Europe performing, choreographing and teaching, including four years as a member of the Danse Partout Company (1993 to 1997). As a solo artist, her work has been presented regularly by La Rotonde and in various festivals elsewhere in Canada, in Belgium and in Berlin. Recent engagements have found her in Moncton at DansEncorps, in Vancouver for the performing arts project Ailanthus and as a guest teacher in Greece. Lydia is the founder of CorresponDanse, a dance series which regularly spotlights professional dance in an informal setting designed to encourage artistic exploration and promote exchange between dance artists of various backgrounds and with the audience. Her versatility and openness have also led her to collaborate with artists of various other artistic disciplines. Lydia has been teaching at L'EDQ since 1997 and has been co-ordinator and artistic director of the final year production project since 1999.
