the Audition process

Audition

Candidates for the Danse-Études program have nothing to prepare for the audition, which runs as a dance class. The audition lasts approximately 3 hours and contains a classical ballet barre and centre, a few contemporary dance exercises and a short improvisation or interpretation sequence. Candidates may also be screened by a licensed physiotherapist who ensures that the young dancer is well suited for the rigours of daily pre-professional dance training. Appropriate dance attire is required: leotard, tights and soft ballet shoes for the classical ballet section; leotard and footless tights for the contemporary dance and improvisation components.

Auditioning by videotape, CD-ROM or DVD

Candidates who are unable to attend the audition in person can submit a VHS videotape, CD-ROM or DVD to L’École de danse de Québec, along with the video audition fee of seventy dollars ($70), and the required photos, copy of birth certificate, etc. However, this type of audition can only serve as a preliminary assessment.

The videotape, CD-ROM or DVD should be a maximum of 60 minutes in length and contain excerpts from various technique classes including ballet barre and centre work, modern or jazz dance, and a short improvisation or solo dance. Students considered for admission to the program following a video audition must attend a full-day workshop or await Summer Intensive to receive final confirmation of admission. For more information concerning auditioning by video, please contact the school.
