classes for children
Most of the children's classes are available once a week, usually on Saturday. However, for classical ballet, classes are held twice a week from the fourth level on.

Creative Dance (ages 5 to 7)
Creative dance develops expressiveness and certain basic qualities valuable for future dance training. As such, it constitutes a good introduction to the various types of theatrical dance available to older children. The creative dance class allows young children to build coordination, body awareness and rhythm, while developing good listening skills, expressiveness and creativity through movement.
Beginner 5 and 6 year olds should register in level 1 (Danse créative 1). Level 2 (Danse créative 2) is for 6 and 7 year olds who have completed level 1 and can also be suitable for 7 year old beginners, following the teacher's recommendation.

Ballet (ages 7 and above)
Classical Ballet is the basis of all theatrical dance forms. Though it requires many years of intensive training to master, it is accessible to any individual who desires to dance for his or her own pleasure. Intimately associated with classical ballet, pointe work is begun after at least four years of training, with the recommendation of the teacher, and only when a student has acquired sound basic technique and when feet, ankles and legs are sufficiently strong. L'École de danse de Québec offers at least seven levels of classical ballet training for children and teens. Two classes per week are scheduled from the fourth level (Élémentaire I). Pointework is available from level 5 (Élémentaire II).

Tap Dance (ages 7 and above)
Tap dance is popular, fun and accessible to all. Introduced by African-Americans, tap dance experienced its heyday during the 1930’s and became a mainstay of musical theatre productions. Metal taps on the toes and heels of the shoes characterizes this dance form, which consists largely of creating a wide range of rhythms with one’s feet. Although largely based on the Al Gilbert technique, tap dance classes at L'École de danse de Québec are influenced by both traditional and modern styles.

Funky jazz (ages 8 and above)
An immensely popular dance style, Jazz dance was originally inspired by African rhythms and movement and developed by African Americans in the 1930s and 1940s. Whether it is danced to traditional African rhythms, jazz and blues or contemporary music, jazz dance explores the human body's full movement potential, making particular use of isolation, undulation and syncopation. Over the years, jazz dance masters have developed a number of valuable techniques and styles. L'École de danse de Québec bases its jazz dance classes on the technique developed by Mrs. Lynn Simonson, a virtually injury-free technique that allows students to develop a high level of body awareness and control. For children and young teens, this strong technical basis is combined with up to date choreographic styles that can include hip hop, funky, and more.
