SIMONSON jazz dance INTENSIVE - AUTUMN semester
Every autumn, for over 15 years, L'École de danse de Québec has been hosting a Simonson Jazz dance intensive. For this annual 2 or 3 day event, L'EDQ invites prestigious guest teachers such as founder Lynn Simonson and Laurie DeVito, Katiti King or Teresa Perez, all from Dance New Amsterdam in New York. Guest teachers usually also include one of the province's fully certified teachers of the Simonson method, such as Liisa Saario or Suzanne Ross. Three groups are usually formed for Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced level students, teachers and dancers. On top of the usual master classes and choreographic workshops, participants can sign up for a pedagogical workshop or the occasional class in yoga, or another complementary technique.
The three levels available are geared to the following clientele:
- PRE-INTERMEDIATE – This level is designed for students and teachers who possess a jazz dance background, but who have little or no experience with the Simonson Jazz Dance method.
- INTERMEDIATE – This level is designed for students and teachers who have some previous experience with the Simonson Jazz Dance method and who are familiar with the basics of the technique.
- ADVANCED – This level is for advanced dancers and teachers who have a significant amount of experience with the Simonson Jazz Dance method. Admission to this level requires the approval of founder Lynn Simonson or the New York-based guest teachers.
